Tim learned square and round dancing in 1973 while
at college in California. The Army sent Tim to Germany where in 1976 he
began to cue and teach round dancing for the Beaux and Belles of
Frankfurt. He has been a club cuer/teacher in Neu Ulm, Germany (1977);
Copperas Cove, Texas (1980); and Atlanta, Georgia (1983). He moved to
Virginia in 1987 and continues to cue for many clubs.
Nana began square and round dancing in 1990 and
quickly became an accomplished dancer. Tim and Nana met in May 1994 at a
Dallas, Texas round dance club. The first dance they ever danced together
was "Kiss Me Goodbye Rumba" (phase VI rumba). Tim and Nana were married
together on 31 October 1996.
Tim and Nana now teach round dancing at their Eum
Paw Paws clubs in Fredericksburg, Virginia and at Arlington (Fort
Myer), Virginia. They cue for three square and round dance clubs:
Rockhill Reelers in Stafford (Virginia); Rappahanock Twirlers in
Fredericksburg (Virginia); and the Rock Eights in Rockville (Maryland).
Tim and Nana are members of RDTA, NCASDLA
(National Capital Area Square Dance Leaders Association), VASCA (Virginia
State Callers Association), DRDC (Dixie Round Dance Council), OSDA
(Overseas Dancers Association), URDC (Universal Round Dance Council), and
ROUNDALAB (the International Association of Round Dance Teachers).
Tim and Nana have choreographed two dances,
"Playful Rumba" (phase V rumba in 2000) and "Only Time" (phase V+2
multi-rhythm in 2002). Tim's choreography also includes "Chain Gang"
(phase 3 two-step in 1987) and "I Can See Clearly Now" (phase 3 five-count
in 1987).
Tim served as the Heart of Texas Caller's
Association Vice President in 1981. He has also served as Secretary, Vice
President, Dance Database Manager, and Webmaster for the Round Dance
Teacher's Association (RDTA) of the Greater Washington DC Area. He has
served as ROUNDALAB's Tuesday Night Dance Committee Chairman (2000) and as
BMI/ASCAP Committee Chairman (2000-2002).
Tim and Nana were elected to the Roundalab Board
of Director's in 2000 and will serve till June 2003. They are the current
RDTA Presidents (2002-2004). Tim and Nana serve as ROUNDALAB's Committee
Chairman for the 2003 Tuesday Night Dance.
Tim and Nana have cued at many special events in
the Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, Tennessee and
Pennsylvania region. They have participated in every U.S. National
Convention since 1995. In January 1999, they were the featured round
dance leaders for the Hawaiian State Convention. In April 2000, they were
featured at the Australian National Convention where they inspired a love
for the Bolero rhythm. In September 2001, they travelled to New
Brunswick, Canada to do an all rounds weekend and will be featured there
again in September 2003. In July 2002, they taught and cued at the
Canadian National Convention. In May 2003, Tim and Nana will teach and
cue for the Ohio State Convention.
Tim and Nana believe that "when you dance, do it
with feeling, be playful and smile". They embody this belief whenever
they teach and cue. Tim and Nana are well known for their energetic
cueing and teaching style.
