Amy & Ken are both originally from Pennsylvania; ironically, they
had to come to Maryland to meet. Ken learned to Square Dance in 1986
in New Jersey with caller John Carlton. After moving back to Laurel,
Maryland, he met Amy at a church function and became Amy’s angel.
Amy graduated from square dancing with caller Baty Hall in 1989,
five days before they were married! Amy had taken ballroom dancing
in college, so she quickly became interested in Round Dancing.
Together, they started Round Dance classes with Doris & Dan Weber in
September 1989. They joined Diamond Wheels and quickly became VP’s
one year, then President the next.
In 1991-92 they were angels for Doris and Dan’s Round Dance
class. Toward the end class (March 1992) Dan Weber was the one that
got Amy to start cueing! In fall of 1992, Ken and Amy moved off to
England for 3 years. Doris sent Amy off with records and lots of
blessings to start a club over there. Their first class became
Corinium Rounds in Cirencester, England. While there, Amy was
certified as a Round Dance Cuer and Round Dance teacher by the
Caller’s Club of Great Britain. In 1995 she was selected as one of
the staff cuers at the British National. Ken & Amy returned back to
Maryland in 1995. The following year they started a Round Dance
class in Laurel that became Amyable Rounders.
A big change came for them in 1998 -- on March 17, Kenneth
(Kenny) Robert Shotting was born. Kenny accompanies them most
everywhere and already has performed at After Parties and Fashion
Shows!! The Shotting’s now live in Ellicott City.
You can see the Shotting’s at many of the local 2x2 clubs. They
are currently cueing monthly at Swinging Squares, Crabtown Squares,
and Tom Thumbs. And you will see them occasionally at Friendship
Squares, Melody Squares, They are RoundALab and RTDA members.
Currently they are studying under Betty and Irv Easterday.
The Shotting’s are also active at their church. Amy is a Sunday
School teacher, Ken is a lector, and Kenny is a 1st grader. All 3
love to sing. Ken and Amy used to sing for the church folk group,
and hope to again someday. Their favorite family activity (other
than dancing together) is hiking together.
